Tahmeed Ahmed is a prominent scientist, and the first Bangladeshi Executive Director of icddr,b (International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh). As a distinguished clinician and research leader, Tahmeed Ahmed has been recognized globally for his critical work in public health, especially in the areas of childhood malnutrition, diarrheal diseases, and in recent times, in dealing with the Covid-19. He is the recipient of several awards from public health organisations including, among others, the Ambulatory Paediatric Association in USA, the Commonwealth Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, and the Indian Paediatric Association. Tahmeed Ahmed’s research will continue to focus on non-communicable diseases, and their intersection with urban geography, which he considers a major challenge for Bangladesh’s 21st-century public health agenda.
