Established in 2015, the Research and Design Program is dedicated to the research, design and planning of cities, settlements and landscapes. The aim of the program is to facilitate planned physical future of Bangladesh along with socio-economic development. Operating in various scales from national to small neighborhood, the key focus of the program includes small towns, public space, and public transport, livability in high density, hydrology, landscape and settlements. In collaboration with various government, non-government, local and international institutions, the program has a diverse operation.
A guidance manual for ready-made garment factories in Bangladesh, the book presents examples of planning schemas for medium and large-scale factories in a a collaboration between the Bengal Institute for Architecture, Landscapes and Settlements (BIALS) and the International Labor Organization (ILO)

Intended to improve the social and economic status of the Dalit community of the Phultola area in Khulna, BI / BAU developed a conceptual plan in 2018. Currently, the project has been revived with the same program but a different location.
