Goals and Objectives

Titled “Futuring Small Towns”, the workshop probes the transformative potential of Bangladesh’s smaller towns as catalysts for reimagining the country’s urban future. Spanning two weeks of exploration, architect Ehsan Khan will guide participants through the distinctive qualities that define small towns — their openness, abundance of green spaces, walkable environments, intimate social connectivity, and exemplary traditional architecture. Through site visits, design exercises, and collaborative discussions, the workshop will examine how these characteristics can be preserved and enhanced to create more livable and economically vibrant communities. The workshop is a unique opportunity for architects, planners, and professionals wishing to explore alternative approaches to urbanization that prioritize sustainability, heritage, and human-scale development.
