“MUZHARUL ISLAM, CHETANA SOCIETY AND AN ARCHITECTURAL MOVEMENT IN BANGLADESH”

The 1980s were a critical period for Muzharul Islam in terms of founding the first architectural research society in Bangladesh, and consequently ushering what can be labeled as an architectural movement. Saif Ul Haque will narrate the story of Chetana and how it spearheaded landmark programs and events, and exhibitions and publications that had a major impact on architecture culture in Bangladesh.

Saif Ul Haque, a prominent architect of Bangladesh, is also a researcher and teacher. He was deeply involved in the activities of Chetana, and directed the landmark documentation and exhibition project “Pundranagar to Sherebanglanagar: Architecture in Bangladesh” in 1997.
