Literary And Built Spaces: A Conjunction | Spring 2026

Wed 11 Mar - Sun 5 Apr' 26

A four-week intensive architectural writing workshop that explores the relationship between literature and the built environment. Through lectures, readings, discussions, and guided writing exercises, the workshop examines how writing shapes architectural history, theory, critique, and practice. How do written words inform, influence, and reframe our understanding of architecture? In what ways can writing become a tool for analysis, persuasion, and envisioning future architectural practices? Participants will engage with these questions to develop critical, reflective, and expressive approaches to writing about architecture and the built environment.

Faculty: Ar. Apurva Bose Dutta (Author, Architectural Journalist, Curator, Editor, Educator)

Goals and Objectives

This workshop will include theoretical lectures, interactive sessions, reading, and writing exercises with feedback. It will highlight the channels, approaches, processes, tools, and outcomes of integrating literary and built spaces. The workshop is designed for individuals with an architectural background interested in architectural design writing. It will benefit architecture students, faculty members, and practising architects who recognise the importance of writing in their practice. Additionally, it will be valuable for anyone passionate about writing on architecture and the built environment.

Written words play a vital role in informing readers about architecture. Beyond sharing knowledge, they can persuade, inspire, influence, and reshape perceptions of the built environment, encouraging meaningful discussions and helping shape future visions of architectural practice. By enabling the exploration of different aspects of an idea, written communication promotes an analytical approach to understanding, expressing, and sharing concepts, and supports research and inquiry.
