Flow of Pages: The Art of Making Books | Spring 2026

Mon 24 Aug - Wed 9 Sep' 26

This workshop explores the art and craft of making books — as physical objects, as collective processes, and as enduring mediums of storytelling and knowledge. Participants will engage in discussions and hands-on sessions spanning the evolution of book design, techniques of bookmaking, and the continued relevance of the printed book in a digital age. It is an invitation to slow down and engage with the book in its most tangible, material form.

Faculty: Irteza Ameen

Goals and Objectives

The workshop will focus on the making of books. Printed books have a life of their own; they are designed, crafted, made, carried, and read. The object-like quality of books makes them tangible and layered; they grow and age with us. This makes physical books a timeless medium for storytelling, creating art and the production of knowledge.

Making a book is a collective process. In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to explore this process through discussion and hands-on sessions. They will engage in the debate of the relevance of crafting a book in today’s increasingly digital world. The workshop is organized in three segments: Evolution in the book design and process, Techniques of making books, and Discussion and hands on-session.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have developed a working understanding of book design and construction, and a broader appreciation for the book as a cultural object.
