Job Vacancy: Research and Design Associate and Academic Associate

We are currently seeking two enthusiastic and hard working individuals for the following positions:

1. Name of the position: Research and Design Associate
Department: Research and Design Program at Bengal Institute for Architecture, Landscapes and Settlements
This position reports to: Director, the Research and Design Program

Job description:

  • Work on urban development projects located in major cities of Bangladesh.
  • Evaluate aspects of urban strategies as well as analyze the context to determine the opportunities and challenges of the project site.
  • Execute zoning, land use, environment, demographic, economic, hydrology and physiography evaluation to identify the potentialities along with constraints.
  • Prepare master plans as well as construction drawings, and supervise the overall development of the project.

 

Eligibility requirements:

We are seeking a research oriented individual with at least 2 to 3 years of research experience. The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in urban design, architecture or landscape architecture from an accredited institution in Bangladesh or abroad. Those with a masters degree in above mentioned disciplines and/or research publications will be preferred. 

Skills required: The candidate must have exceptional research skills, as well expertise in some of the major design related softwares such as AutoCAD, Google Sketchup + Vray, Lumion, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator.

Required work hours: Working hours are from 10 am to 6 pm, from Sundays to Thursdays, with on-call duties on Saturdays.


2. Name of position: Academic Associate
Department: Academic Program at Bengal Institute for Architecture, Landscapes and Settlements

This position will be responsible for assisting Associate Academic Coordinator with managing admission and participants, faculty management and liaison, and day to day activities of the academic program. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to communications with participants, managing payment, attendance, submission etc. 

There will be occasional need to organise events related to the academic program, that includes the public lectures and workshops etc. Additional responsibility is to help with updating the website, social media etc. 

Skills required:

  1. Strong command over English with experience in writing for blogs / online magazines / newspapers is required.
  2. Experience of managing online contents and social media for organisational accounts.
  3. Intermediate skills in creating graphics with Photoshop / Illustrator or CorelDraw.
  4. Experience with (or willing to learn) technologies like Google Docs, Calendar, Trello, MailChimp etc. and other contemporary online tools of communication and work management.
  5. Understanding of architectural writings and theories, fast reading and analytical ability is a plus.
  6. The candidate is required to be responsive to communications at all times i.e. sometimes they have to be able to report and work from outside the office too, especially for editing/fixing online contents in case of emergencies and during application deadlines.

 

Eligibility requirements:

Candidate must be a graduate from an accredited B.Arch program, in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He/she must have a strong inclination towards the academic field of architecture and related disciplines. An avid reader who has experience with writing and editing will be preferred. 

Required work hours:
Working hours are 10:00 to 18:00, 5 days a week (Sunday – Thursday)
and from 12:30 to 20:30 (when academic program is in session).
